Food stuck in empty wisdom tooth socket?

I got my four wisdom teeth extracted yesterday and this morning I was trying to eat scrambled eggs and got a piece of egg stuck in one of my bottom sockets. How do I get it out? I tried rinsing with warm salt water and it didn't come out but I'm worried that I'll dislodge the blood clot if I rinse too vigorously. Can this cause an infection? What can I do to get it to come out without harming the healing process?

Leave it alone and it will work itself out on its own. Extraction sockets heal from the bottom up so nothing will ever get trapped permanently in the gum. You will do more harm than good if you try to dislodge the food yourself and stop with the rinsing. If normal rinsing won't loosen the food then leave well enough alone. You do not want to dislodge the clot and develop a dry socket and if you haven't already heard, dry sockets HURT LIKE HELL. Food in the socket will not cause any infection and will not affect the healing process.
